A frigid night didn’t stop more than 60 watch enthusiasts from coming to 612 Brew in Northeast Minneapolis Wednesday night. The draw? Tudor Watch USA Brand Manager, Russell Kelly, was in town from New York and brought some special vintage pieces from the company’s Geneva archives. With some help from local Tudor retailer, Wixon Jewelers, there were also plenty of contemporary Tudors to be fondled as well—Black Shield and Heritage Chronographs, Black Bay and Pelagos divers and the new Heritage Ranger.
While Tudor’s nailing it with its current lineup, we’re suckers for vintage, and it’s interesting to see where inspiration for some of the Heritage collection comes from. Russell brought a quiver old chronographs with him, including a 1970 reference 7032/0 with the gray dial, orange accents and “homeplate” markers whose design inspired the Heritage Chronograph that heralded Tudor’s return to the US a few years back. Other highlights were a couple of Big Block chronographs from the ‘80s, one, a “Panda” dial with its original caseback sticker intact, and the other a rare reference 9430/0 “Big Block Exotic” with orange accents in the chapter ring and subdials.
Adding to the treasures that Russell brought, were a handful of other vintage Tudors that one of the evening’s guests revealed including a very rare vintage Advisor alarm watch from the 1960s, as well as a couple of collectible old Rolexes for good measure.
While there were plenty of other watch brands represented on attendees’ wrists, the focus of the night was clearly Tudor, a brand still somewhat exotic in these parts and a good fit for the understated utilitarianism of the Midwest. Everyone agreed, it was an event worth braving the cold to attend. To witness, here are some photos from the event.
